Sprout Fund invests in seed- and early-stage companies with Series-A funding potential. The fund leverages the collective experience of its Managing and Limited Partners to mentor and fund high-potential technology companies.  Investments range from $50,000 to $100,000 per company.

Our Managing Partners


Kristina Milke

Kristina is the President of Valhalla Angels, one of Canada’s most active angel investing groups and an Executive/Co-Founder with Valhalla Private Capital.

Kristina is a CPA/Chartered Accountant with a bachelor’s degree in Commerce from the University of Alberta. She is the former General Manager of Investopedia, a firm acquired by the global media company Forbes.  She was the Corporate Divisional Controller for Intuit Canada as well as the Divisional Controller and Ethics Officer for Spar Aerospace.

Kristina is on the Board of Directors for the National Angel Capital Organization, supporting Angels, incubators, and accelerators as they help entrepreneurs turn good ideas into great businesses. 

She is an A100 member and is on the Board of Advisors with Venture Mentoring Services (VMS) a world-renowned mentoring program founded at MIT and operating locally at the University of Alberta.


Lindsay Dodd

Lindsay Dodd is a Director with Doddcor Ltd, a private holding company with investments in the technology sector. 

He is the former CEO of Savvia Inc., a technology-advisory firm acquired by CompuVision Systems Ltd. in 2016.  Before launching his company, Lindsay was a Partner with the international IT consulting firm of Sierra Systems. He has also held senior IT management positions with companies such as PCL Construction and ATB Financial.

Lindsay is currently Chair of the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation Board of Trustees and was co-Chair of the Stollery 2020 Task Force.  He is a Director with the Edmonton Eskimo Football Club, and is the former Chair of the Board of the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce.

He is a member of the A100, an angel investor with Valhalla Angels, and a mentor with the VMS group of the University of Alberta. 

Lindsay holds the ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors.  He earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree with distinction from the University of Alberta and a Masters of Business Administration from the Richard Ivey School of Business at Western University.


Mark Benning

Mark Benning is the Founder and CEO of Founderly.co. He is an experienced entrepreneur who founded and led four investor-backed, technology startups in Silicon Valley, California over a 20-year period. In addition to managing strategy, business development, sales, and finance, Mark raised over $100 million in angel and venture funding for his startups and others he has advised. Over the years, he has worked for various private equity and venture capital firms.

Mark is a member of the A100, an angel investor with Valhalla Angels, a mentor with the VMS group of the University of Alberta, and founder of the Pitchfest.org emerging-technology pitch event.

Mark has a BA in Economics from Harvard University and an MBA from Stanford University, where he focused on leadership and entrepreneurship. Between his time at Harvard and Stanford, he played professional ice hockey in Europe and traveled extensively throughout the world.


Shaheel Hooda

Shaheel is a serial entrepreneur and angel investor. In addition to his current role as Executive in Residence and Program Director for TEC Edmonton’s TELUS Accelerator, Shaheel served an early investor in and board member of Login Radius, a high-growth Software as a Service (SaaS) company that has exceeded a valuation of $50 million within 5 years and received a significant investment this year from from Microsoft Ventures and a top-tier US venture fund.

Shaheel has previously served as CEO of two high growth Canadian software startups, Director of Business Development at a U.S. enterprise software company, and former strategy consultant at McKinsey & Co. He has been involved in starting or running more than 15 startup businesses to date, has actively advised hundreds of startup entrepreneurs and has been involved in raising over $100 million in capital.

Shaheel has served as Chairman of the A100 Tech Entrepreneurs, is currently a University of Alberta Venture Services Mentor, and a Harvard University Startup Innovation Lab Advisor. He also volunteers his time as a scholar mentor with the Peter Lougheed Leadership College at the University of Alberta. He holds an MBA (Entrepreneurial Finance) from Harvard Business School and a Bachelor of Commerce (Distinction) from the University of Alberta. In 2016 he was awarded the Entrepreneur Promotion award from the Startup Canada organization.
